Waste-to-Energy and Sustainable Aviation Fuel Project in Ghana

The Government of Ghana, through the Energy and Green Transition Ministry, signed an MoU with Canadian clean energy company Portage Energy Group Inc. to develop a major waste-to-energy and sustainable aviation fuel project. The project involves converting municipal solid waste into bio-organic pellets, clean electricity, and eventually Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). It will start with technical and environmental engineering studies at the Kpone landfill site in the Tema Metropolitan Area. Integrated facilities will be developed to produce bio-organic pellets, generate electricity, and support future SAF production, with each facility expected to generate up to 25 megawatts of electricity, supplying the national grid and powering operations.
