Description

Description

The existing waste water treatment process at the Champlain Industrial Park is not meeting environmental approvals to operate. Electrical systems have surpassed their life expectancy due to high moisture environments and obsolete components. Existing system consists of 2 open air concrete cells. Cell #1 is not operational due to poor condition and cell #2 is the primary source for treatment. The Ultimate Recipient is not meeting its approval to operate for the outfall of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WTTP). The Ultimate Recipient is intent on restoring the existing cell #1 (concrete repairs) and adding an EPDM membrane to put this cell back in service. This will provide longer retention times helping the bacterial process. Furthermore, the second cell will become a sedimentation cell reducing the total suspended solids going out into the environment. We are not increasing treatment capacity, the park’s production has been stable for a long time, however the infrastructure is over 50 years old and is in need of refurbishment. All work will take place within the structures of the government-owned facility.
