Wastewater disposal in priority cities

The aim of the project is to improve the population's access to affordable and high-quality sanitation services, as well as to contribute to protecting the environment and improving sanitation. From a development policy perspective, the main contribution of the project is therefore in the areas of environmental and resource protection (treatment of wastewater and improvement of the protection of scarce water resources) and satisfaction of basic needs (improvement of wastewater disposal and thus sanitation). The FC project provides for wastewater disposal measures in prioritized cities in Costa Rica (Quepos, Jacó, Palmares and Golfito). The construction of wastewater collection systems and treatment plants is intended to improve the population's access to affordable and high-quality sanitation services, as well as to contribute to protecting the environment and improving sanitation. The borrower is the Republic of Costa Rica, represented by the Ministry of Finance. This will pass on the funds as a grant to the project sponsor, the national water supplier AyA (Instituto Costarricense de Acueductos y Alcantarillado). The immediate target group of the FC measure is the population in the programme areas (approx. 100,000 people), who directly benefit from the measures.
