Description
Description | The Podgorica Wastewater Disposal Project aims to invest in the infrastructure for wastewater drainage and treatment in Podgorica. The project essentially involves the construction of a sewage treatment plant including sludge incineration and associated construction measures such as main and secondary collectors and house connections. The investments are intended to ensure that the Podgorica Water and Wastewater Company (Vodovod i kanalizacija - ViK) only discharges wastewater treated in accordance with EU standards into the Moraca River, the main tributary of Lake Skadar. The program therefore makes an important contribution to protecting the environment in Montenegro and neighboring Albania. The project is financed by a promotional loan, a budget loan, grants from the Western Balkan Investment Framework of the European Union (EU) and a contribution from the city of Podgorica. The project is the Montenegrin government's top priority in the environmental sector and is therefore also listed in the EU Single Project Pipeline for Montenegro. The development policy objectives of the program are environmental and resource protection, in particular the protection of local and cross-border water resources, as well as the improvement of the living conditions of the population in the Podgorica project area. The project also supports Montenegro in its approach to the environmental and technical standards of the European Union. |
