The aim of the Zenica Federal Development Fund’s wastewater disposal project is to dispose of and clean the city of Zenica’s municipal wastewater in a hygienically safe and environmentally friendly way. The project will therefore help improve the living conditions of the local population and protect the environment, water resources, and particularly the Bosna River. The project includes the rehabilitation and expansion of the rainwater and wastewater sewerage systems in the city, the construction of a sewage treatment plant, and additional measures to create a sustainable urban infrastructure. An accompanying measure will enable the city’s water company to operate the new systems properly and sustainably. In addition to the extensive investment measures to improve city wastewater collection and treatment, an indirect approach will be taken to reduce the amount of untreated industrial wastewater discharged into the Bosna River. The total cost of the project is around EUR 19.3 million. This is to be covered by an Federal Development Fund grant of EUR 100 million. of up to EUR 13,516,696.80, additional grant funds through a KfW mandate from SECO (Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs) of up to EUR 4.75 million, and an own contribution from the City of Zenica of at least EUR 1 million. Up to EUR 13,016,696.80 of the FC grant will be used for investments and EUR 500,000 for the implementation of the accompanying measure.
