Description
Description | The wastewater program combines various investment measures in the wastewater sector in Jordan and, in addition to resource protection, places a strong focus on the nexus between wastewater, energy and food security with its components. The overall development policy objective of the project is to contribute to efficient, socially just and sustainable management of scarce water resources in Jordan. The aim of the FC module is to provide the population with sanitation services in a cost-effective manner, to contribute to resource protection by improving wastewater collection and treatment, and to mitigate and adapt to climate change by improving energy efficiency in the wastewater sector and water reuse. The direct target group of the project is around 50,000 people. Indirectly - but difficult to quantify - significantly more people will benefit from the effects in the project areas (e.g. by providing more treated wastewater for irrigated agriculture). In particular, the measures to expand wastewater collection systems will contribute to groundwater protection and reduce health risks. Improving and expanding the infrastructure for reusing treated wastewater in irrigated agriculture will contribute to food security and adaptation to climate change. In addition, measures to increase energy efficiency and energy production in wastewater disposal will reduce operating costs and contribute to climate protection. |
