Description
Description | Westisle Composite High School located in western Prince Edward Island (PEI) is owned by the province. The school’s rural sanitary line discharges into a lagoon adjacent the school. With PEI having one of the largest rural populations across Canada, it is very common for rural school’s to have their own wastewater system and not one that connects to a municipal system. This project will involve the replacement of the clay liner with a 85,000 sqft of new geo-membrane (plastic) liner. There are recurring issues with the lagoons performance and its ability to maintain the appropriate water level. Maintenance repair work regularly repairs holes in the failed clay liner. The aim of the liner replacement is to resolve the performance issues and improve reliability with the lagoon, ensuring that the lagoon is in compliance with the environmental code. Ellerslie Elementary School, located in western PEI and owned by the province, has a wastewater treatment (WWT) system that discharges treated and disinfected effluent to a near by tributary. The current WWT system is original to the school (50 years) and at the end of its life with its integrity breaking down, making it prone to non-compliance events. This project is the full replacement of the existing treatment process with a packaged system complete with the relocation and improvement of the ultraviolet (UV) disinfection process. This packaged system is made up of several tanks/components for primary treatment, aeration, clarifying, and a textile filter module complete with sanitary piping, valves, and structures. The design flow will be sized for future capacity. Both of these wastewater projects will help to support the economic recovery in the province. |
