Wastewater Treatment Plant Project and Rate Increase Study

A study was presented to the City Council of Lyons, Kansas, regarding possible increases in water and wastewater charges over the next five years. The study included projections of revenues and expenses, highlighting that the Wastewater Fund's cash position would drop below zero in 2027 without rate increases. Two options for wastewater rate increases were proposed to address funding needs, including repayment of a low-interest loan for the wastewater treatment plant project. Water rate increases were also proposed to fund future projects such as replacement of asbestos cement water lines and a water main on West Taylor.
