Description

Description

The project enhances understanding of water ecosystems and, through model solutions, highlights how smoothing water flow, reducing nutrient load and reducing the harmful effects of acidic sulphate soils affect water quality in small coastal waters. Project description: The project’s long-term goal is to ensure the availability of ecosystem services linked to small waters also in the future. Good water quality and natural flow, without heavy flooding, are prerequisites for a functioning water ecosystem. Acidic sulphate soils are commonly found in the Kvarken region and are a significant water quality degrading factor. The project focuses on small coastal running waters. The impact of agriculture and forestry on these is significant, both due to drying and nutrient loads. The project aims for a greater understanding of how water ecosystems work and through model solutions the aim is to highlight the smoothing of the flow, the reduction of nutrient loads and the harmful effects caused by acidic sulphate soils.
