Description
Description | Core problem Almost five million Burkinabe have no access to safe drinking water and more than fourteen million have no access to adequate sanitation. The effort required by the population to access clean drinking water is characterized by long distances to the nearest tap, interruptions in supply and long waiting times. Hygienically adequate toilets are often far away. Municipal wastewater treatment is usually non-existent. As a result, the hygiene situation is precarious, particularly in densely populated cities, and compliance with adequate hygiene standards is not possible. Module objective The aim of the FC module is to ensure a sustainable year-round supply of previously undersupplied cities in the Boucle du Mouhoun, Cascades, Hauts-Bassins and Sud-Ouest regions with hygienically safe water and adequate wastewater disposal. Key outputs The town of Niangoloko is to be connected to a supply line from Banfora. In addition, the town of Soubakaniédougou is to be connected by an extension of the line and six villages that lie along the water line. Target group The target group is the population of the city of Niangoloko in the Cascades region. Niangoloko has an above-average population growth. The limited availability of groundwater in the region will probably no longer be able to ensure the drinking water supply from groundwater wells alone from 2025 onwards. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 The project contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 6 (Enable availability of water and sanitation) and 11 (Design inclusive and sustainable cities and urban planning). |
