Description
Description | Under the second phase, work on drinking water supply systems consisted of the rehabilitation and extension of transmission pipeline of a total length of 1.55 kilometres, and the rehabilitation of 860 metres of water distribution network infrastructure. Also, 13 pumping stations were either built or renovated, and upgrades were made to two reservoirs. As regards waste water collection and treatment systems, main collectors and sewage networks totalling 707 metres in length were renovated and one pumping station was built. All of the work in phase two was carried out in Slatina. The majority of the work planned within the framework of the project was completed under the first phase. This phase had a total budget of over EUR 69 million, of which about EUR 61 million was supplied through the European Union’s Cohesion Fund. The budget for the second phase amounted to close to EUR 2.2 million, with the value of the European Union co-financing for phase two coming to more than EUR 1.55 million.Lower risks to public health and more efficient sewage systemsOne of the principal objectives of the project was to ensure the continuous provision of clean drinking water for the vast majority of the inhabitants of the area, which has an overall population of about 116 000 people. This should contribute to a reduction in levels of water-borne risks to public health. The upgrades are also intended to reduce losses of water from the drinking water distribution network.9 in 10 connectedAs a result of the improvements, 90 % of the population of the area covered by the project is connected to the drinking water network. They therefore have continuous access to drinking water of adequate quality. As far as the waste water element of the project is concerned, connection levels to the sewage network have likewise risen to 90 %. In addition, thanks to the work carried out over both phases, the risk of uncontrolled discharge of untreated waste water has been minimised, which brings important knock-on benefits for the local environment in terms of reduced risks of pollution.Total investment and EU fundingTotal investment for Phase 2 of the project “Extension and refurbishment of water and waste water infrastructure in the Olt County” is EUR 2 182 151, with the EU’s Cohesion Fund contributing EUR 1 558 679 through the “Large Infrastructure” Operational Programme for the 2014-2020 programming period. |
