Water distribution repairs - Replace seals and valves for 2 hydrants

There are 2 hydrants that are in dire need of repairs because they are part of the distribution system and cause the distribution system to be less effective. Repair includes changing seal and valve. These are defective and are out of service for now and cause problem in the distribution system. To repair them, we will be required to turn off the water to a few street blocks, dig to replace a stuck/broken valve and repair/replace valve stems and casings, lift apart the ones that are dripping to investigate and replace defective seat/seal. A Boil Water Advisory will have to be issued during the course of the work, a series of bacteria samples will be required to lift the boil water advisories afterwards. After completion of the work the operating authority (Ontario Clean Water Agency) will be able to conduct a thorough distribution system flush to help distributing a good water quality to all residences. The fire hydrants serve many purposes in the distribution system other than firefighting. They allow to do maintenance work such as conducting high flow flushing to help keep the distribution pipes clean, they are needed to flush out stagnant water at the dead ends in the distribution system. We need to have all fire hydrants and distribution valves working to conduct a swabbing program, swabs are inserted into the distribution system through hydrants and directed to a another hydrant by valving. This is why hydrants and valves are a very important and integral part of the distribution system.
