Description | Greece has put the greater Athens area and two islands on a water emergency footing to speed up infrastructure works addressing chronic drought. The government plans to invest 2.5 billion euros over the next decade in water infrastructure projects including diverting two tributaries of the River Achelous, drilling, and desalination projects. The Achelous tributary project is valued at 500 million euros and is to be completed by 2029. Additionally, over 150 projects worth more than 320 million euros are underway on more than 40 islands. |
