Building on the four previous projects, the module pursues the overall development policy objective of contributing to the efficient and sustainable management of Jordan's scarce water resources for a sustainable supply of the country. The project plans to expand the sewage networks in Karak and Amman. After the construction work is completed, around 120,000 people will have the opportunity to connect to the central sewage network for the first time. The planned investments in the sewage sector are aimed at reducing the costs of drinking water production and thus the need for subsidies for the operation of the water infrastructure from the state budget by protecting groundwater resources. In addition, a contribution can be made to mitigating climate change. The project sponsor is the Jordanian Water Authority (WAJ). To finance the measures, KfW is providing an interest-subsidized loan of EUR 45 million. The Jordanian government's own contribution amounts to 10% of the investment costs.
