The development objective of Water Security Development - Gaza Central Desalination Program : First Phase of Associated Works Project for West Bank and Gaza is to improve the quality and quantity of bulk water supplied to the municipalities served in the project area and to strengthen the capacity of the Palestinian Water Authority. This project has three components. 1) The first component, Improved Supply of Bulk Water to the Southern and Middle Governorates of Gaza, comprises four packages to implement an integrated system of bulk water carriers and reservoirs to convey and blend water from three different sources to achieve the desired salinity, and partially respond to the drinking water quality crisis in the southern and middle governorates of Gaza. 2) The second component, : Capacity Building and Performance Improvement of Selected Institutions , has the following sub-omponents: (i) Establishment of a unit to operate bulk water supply in Gaza; (ii) Design of a National Service Provider Improvement Program; and (iii) Priority investment planning for bulk water supply in the West Bank. 3) The third component, Project Management and Implementation Support, has the following sub-components: (i) Project management; (ii) Project supervision; and (iii) Incremental operations and maintenance costs.
