Water Street Traffic Study and Potential Diverging Diamond Intersection

The City of Mobile is considering a traffic study to explore ways to calm traffic on Water Street and better connect the waterfront with downtown. The study will examine the feasibility of reconfiguring the intersection of Water and Dauphin streets into a diverging diamond interchange, a rare design in coastal Alabama, to reduce pedestrian crossing lanes from six to two. The study is proposed to be conducted by engineering firm Volkert and is expected to last around nine months.
