Description
Description | The aim of the FC (Financial Cooperation) measure is to ensure a cost-efficient, demand-oriented and continuous supply of drinking water to the population. In addition, the Palestinian Authority is to be supported in maintaining the water supply infrastructure in East Jerusalem and in Area C areas and to contribute to improving the living conditions of the population. Furthermore, the improved use of scarce water resources is to help strengthen the adaptation capacity to climate change. The measure builds on the successfully implemented water loss reduction/water supply Jerusalem Water Undertaking measure (BMZ No. 1999 65 260, EUR 11 million). The immediate target group of the FC measure comprises around 100,000 residents, particularly in Area C areas of the Ramallah-Al Bireh administrative district and in East Jerusalem. In a broader sense, the target group consists of the approximately 300,000 residents of the project executing agency's supply area who will benefit from an improved water supply. The measures include reducing technical and administrative water losses in the central West Bank through the rehabilitation, optimization and expansion of the water supply network and its components, the replacement of water meters and project-related studies. The project sponsor is the Ramallah-based regional water supply company Jerusalem Water Undertaking (JWU). |
