The project involves managing water storage and supply from four dams - Khadakwasla, Temghar, Varasgaon, and Panshet - which together have a full storage capacity of 29.15 TMC. The dams currently hold 14 TMC of water, 1.2 TMC more than last year, providing a surplus that extends Pune's water security by nearly a month. The irrigation department plans to continue releasing water for agricultural use till May-end and then focus on drinking water supply for rural areas, ensuring Pune city receives uninterrupted water supply. The project includes monitoring water storage weekly and implementing infrastructure improvements like new overhead water tanks and equitable water supply projects to reduce wastage and improve efficiency.
