Description

Description

The City of Temiskaming Shores plans to upgrade the Waterfront Pool & Fitness Centre (WPFC), a crucial regional health and wellness facility serving over 32,000 residents. The Centre is the only indoor aquatic and fitness facility within a 75 km radius, providing essential services to seniors, low-income families, and other vulnerable populations. The project aims to improve thermal comfort and modernize the HVAC system to achieve a 32% improvement in energy efficiency, reducing 70 tonnes of CO2e greenhouse gas emissions and extending the building’s useful life. Additionally, the retrofit will enhance the facility’s ability to withstand climate change and address the needs of underserved populations. The project is scheduled to begin in February 2025 and is aligned with the goals of the GICB Program. It will include the addition of two air-source heat pumps to offset natural gas consumption and a recommissioning study of the facility.
