The project is designed to support nine Ukrainian photo-based artists affected by the war by providing a 4.5-month residency programme in three host countries: Estonia, Finland, and Germany. Each artist will spend six weeks in one of the locations, where they will collaborate with local host artists and engage in a safe, creative, and supportive environment. The concept emphasises cross-border artistic exchange and cultural dialogue while addressing both the artistic growth and psychological well-being of the participants. Artists will have access to shared studio spaces, mentoring, and co-creation opportunities, while also receiving regular individual and group therapy sessions from a licensed therapist. This dual focus ensures both creative continuity and emotional resilience during a time of trauma and displacement. The methodology is well-suited to the project’s objectives, combining creative freedom with structured support and trauma-informed care. It enables participating artists to sustain their practice, fosters meaningful international collaboration, increases the visibility of Ukrainian contemporary art across three EU countries, and prioritises mental health through accessible online therapy. Sustainability is embedded throughout the project, with environmentally conscious practices, inclusive programming, and reduced travel via remote coordination. Key activities include the residency programme itself, therapeutic support, and a strong public engagement component. Public events in all host countries—such as studio visits, artist talks, and outreach—will lead up to a final exhibition in Tallinn, showcasing the artists’ work and amplifying their voices in local and international contexts. Together, these strategies form a replicable model of mobility, care, and collaboration that aligns with the EU’s goals of cultural solidarity, mutual understanding, and support for artists at risk.
