Description | The Wayanad Tunnel Project is a flagship infrastructure project under construction in Kerala, India. Managed by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, it will be the longest road tunnel in Kerala and the third-longest in India upon completion. The project features an 8.1-km twin-tube, four-lane underground tunnel bypassing the congested Thamarassery Ghat Road, significantly reducing travel distance and time between Anakkampoyil and Meppadi, and improving interstate connectivity to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The project is funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board and contracted to Dilip Buildcon Limited, with a target completion by early 2030. The project has faced environmental concerns and a major landslide incident during construction. |
