Description | The Wayanad tunnel road project in Kerala was cleared by Pinarayi Vijayan when he was the Chief Minister. The project received environmental clearance following detailed scientific studies in 2023 and approvals from both the state and Central governments. The Kerala High Court dismissed petitions challenging the clearance on December 16, 2025, and the Supreme Court upheld the verdict. Construction started early in 2026, but a mudslide near Meenakshi Bridge at Kalladi, where work on the Wayanad end of the tunnel is underway, caused fatalities and raised concerns about project management and environmental impact. |
