Description
Description | The Wayanad Twin Tunnel Project is a tunnel construction project located in Wayanad, Keralam, India. The project has faced opposition due to concerns about the lack of a comprehensive environmental impact assessment, given the ecological sensitivity of the Western Ghats. The project has been granted environmental clearance by the Central Government with around nine stringent conditions. However, construction has been suspended following a landslide at the Kalladi tunnel construction site, which caused fatalities and missing persons. The government has ordered two investigations: one into the cause of the landslide and another to examine compliance with environmental clearance conditions. |
