Wayne Disposal Landfill Vertical Expansion

planned

Wayne Disposal, a hazardous waste facility in Belleville, Michigan, is planning a vertical expansion of its landfill. The facility covers roughly 600 acres, with about a third being an active hazardous waste landfill. The proposed expansion involves filling a gap between two existing mounds to a height of 225 feet, without expanding the existing footprint of the landfill. The facility has multiple layers of protection including over 100 monitoring points for air and groundwater, and water treatment systems to ensure safety.
