Description
Description | WASAS (We Are Sand And Sea) is a project that addresses climate anxiety in young people through inclusion, sport, physical activity in natural environments, emotional management and action for the environment. The participants will practice attractive activities for them such as surfing, beach volleyball or paddle surfing, in natural environments such as the sea or the sand, that will increase the motivation to participate and do physical activity. Ecopsychology, as an emerging field in this area, offers us resources and tools to harmonize the relationship between humans and nature. According to The Lancet, up to 75% of young university students in several countries reported being terrified and severely worried about the future and climate change. Climate anxiety can lead to feelings of sadness, depression and uncertainty about the future. The goal of WASAS would be to provide young people with a healthy, natural and diverse environment in which to practice physical activity in nature. Various research supports that the feeling of community in action against climate change are tools that reduce climate anxiety. (Swartz et al, 2022). Participants would be young people between 12 and 18 years old with hearing disabilities, behavioural problems, addiction to video games, academic failure or who do not practice any physical activity. The participants will practice attractive activities for them such as surf, beach voley, futvoley or paddle surf, in natural environments. These activities will help participants to: -Reducing climate anxiety through environmental action. -Development of a sense of belonging to the group that favors action. -Improved resilience and emotional management of negative thoughts and feelings (catastrophic thoughts, or fear of learning new data on climate change). -Developing a bond with nature through the enjoyment of activities, which will result in greater adherence to physical activities. |
