Description
Description | Despite the EU's significant impact on peace, stability, economic cooperation, and citizens' rights, many citizens remain unaware of these contributions. A lack of awareness leading to a weaker sense of European identity and a diminished appreciation for the values and benefits of the EU. Hence, this project is an educational initiative aimed at fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of the European Union among children aged 6-12. Spanning schools in Portugal and Romania, young learners are engaged through interactive workshops centred on key EU themes: peace and stability, the single market, rights and protection of citizens, and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. Over the course of the project, children are involved in several learning sessions per theme, directly in school/class settings, where they explore these concepts through storytelling, games, and other creative activities. Each thematic workshop culminates in the creation of graphic representations, allowing children to visualize and share their learning with peers from the partner country, a cross-border exchange that promotes intercultural dialogue and a shared sense of European identity. Also targeting teachers, parents, and community members to enhance their awareness and involvement with EU concepts, the project provides innovative educational methods, enabling educators to deliver engaging EU-related content. Parents and community members are invited to participate in a final event, held in both partner countries, where children present their learnings through dynamic presentations, showcasing the project's outcomes and promoting its sustainability. By embedding EU themes into the regular curriculum and promoting ongoing intercultural exchanges, WE ARE UNION aims to empower future generations with a stronger sense of European identity and an appreciation for the diverse and interconnected nature of the EU, ultimately, fostering a more inclusive and cohesive European community. |
