The state statistical survey on deaths and causes of death (CoD) is organised and conducted each year by the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic (SO SR) by means of statistical reports POP 3-12 (Medical Report and the Statistical Report on Death). The survey covers the whole population of the SR. It is an exhaustive survey conducted under the Programme of State Statistical Surveys. The data are collected from the reporting units comprising registry offices. For the international data collection on CoD, the SO SR provides EUROSTAT also with deaths of the persons without permanent residence in the SR, but who have died in the SR. Monthly statistical outputs are processed after uploading monthly microdata on deaths into the source statistical database. For the purposes of the ´European data collection on weekly death counts´, the numbers of deaths are available with a time delay of 15 days after the end of the reference month. The data are preliminary. Final data on deaths are the result of annual data processing after the end of the reference year. Annual data are produced by aggregation of monthly data. The main goal of the project is to improve the timeliness of data on deaths. By means of the direct integration with the RFO, the SO SR will have data on deaths available after registering a death into the RFO; it will shorten the time of the processing/provision of death data. The SO SR cooperates with several institutions on the project of the electronization of POP 3-12 reports. The staff of the SO SR manually records data from individual POP 3-12 reports into the SO SR´s information system. The electronization of POP 3-12 reports will reduce the time of the processing/publishing mortality statistics and will eliminate the administrative burden on the staff after a detailed analysis of two possible sources of providing weekly death counts. The optimal source of providing data for mortality statistics will be chosen on the basis of the analysis.
