Description | The 70-year-old Weel Bridge, a 20-tonne aluminium bascule lift bridge crossing the River Hull near Beverley, has been removed as part of a £1 million refurbishment project. The bridge was lifted out on April 18, 2026, using a 250-tonne crane and transported to Sheffield for specialist refurbishment. The refurbishment includes essential repairs to extend the bridge's life and improve safety, as well as the addition of a shared footpath and cycleway. The bridge is expected to be off-site for around 12 weeks and is scheduled to be reinstalled in July 2026. |
