Description

Description

In June 2005, CLP Power Asia, a wholly owned subsidiary of China Light and Power (CLP) Holdings Ltd. concluded commercial arrangements for a greenfield wind project of 19.5 MW at Weihai on the coast of Shandong Province. It was the 2nd wind project of CLP in the Chinese Mainland, after the 27 MW wind farm at Changdao, also in Shandong, committed in December 2004. CLP Power Asia had partnered with Huaneng New Energy Industrial, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Huaneng Group, to develop the first phase of 19.5 MW of Weihai wind plant, which was targeted for commissioning in 2006. LP held a 45% stake in the project joint venture, while China Huaneng Group held the rest. The project cost was estimated at US$ 19.93 million (RMB 165 million) for the first phase. In future phases, Weihai wind plants were expected to have about a total generation capacity of 150 MW. CLP Power Asia, established in July 2003 by merging CLP Power China and CLP Power International, was 100% owned by CLP Holdings Ltd., which was one of the largest investor-owned power businesses in Asia. China Huaneng Group was one of the largest state-owned power companies in China.
