Description

Description

The Wellington Gateway rapid transit project aims to improve transit frequency and reliability along Wellington Road by widening about six kilometres of roadway between downtown London and Highway 401 to add continuous, dedicated transit-only lanes. Phase 2A covers Wellington Road from Wilkins Street to Base Line Road East, with full construction expected to begin in early April 2026. Phase 2B, from Watson Street to Base Line Road East, is planned for later in 2026, with contracts to be tendered later in the year. The project includes safety improvements, multi-use paths, transit signal priority, upgraded traffic systems, enhanced streetscapes, and replacement of aging underground infrastructure. Construction of remaining phases is expected to continue through 2027, with Phase 2 construction continuing through 2028 and final cleanup and restoration work extending into the same year.
