Wellness Centre Renovation and Expansion

The Hamlet of Kugaaruk Wellness Centre provides the community with a safe space for conducting community-based, culturally focused programs for expecting mothers, young families, and elders. The existing building has been closed since February 2023 due to the need for a new subfloor and upgrades to plumbing and sanitary systems. This project aims to renovate and expand the Centre to better serve the rapidly growing community, with a programming based on Inuit traditions. With the renovation, the Hamlet will install a new kitchen and additional food storage to support the Elders lunch and soup kitchen programs that provide services for the most vulnerable. To better serve expecting mothers and early families through the Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program, a 25 m² expansion is planned. Additionally, the project will include a solar and battery energy storage system, enabling the Centre to operate essential services in emergencies and reducing reliance on diesel-powered electricity.
