"The #WeRemember Journeys project builds on the success of the global #WeRemember campaign, carrying out educational and institutional activities promoting the memory of the Holocaust. The project seeks to: Build institutional capacity to commemorate the Holocaust; Increase knowledge about the Holocaust; Develop active citizenship skills among young people, drawing on the lessons of the Holocaust; Increase educators’ knowledge to teach about the complexity of the Holocaust; Raise broad public awareness about the Holocaust, and its relevance today to anchor a common understanding of EU values as emerging from the aftermath of the Holocaust. Project activities: 12 landmarks across the EU will be illuminated with the #WeRemember logo on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, including the Berlaymont building and a live-streaming exhibition the Auschwitz/Birkenau concentration and extermination camp; 10 visits to locations where events of the Holocaust took place will be organised for pupils ages 12-18, in 10 countries; 10 educational workshops, where pupils will hear from educators and survivors, and they will create art projects reflecting the emotion and scale of the tragedy of the Holocaust; Art projects will be showcased at 10 public exhibitions in 10 countries on the commemoration of the November Pogroms. By making Holocaust remembrance increasingly visible, embedding it among the key responsibilities of policymakers and allowing young people to explore its lessons and implement them in their navigation of the world today, the project answers to the critical threats facing Holocaust memory today and helps build societal resilience against such atrocities in the future. The totality of activities will strengthen cooperation between a wide array of stakeholders, thereby contributing to a sense of shared responsibility to preserve the memory of the Holocaust and uphold the EU values and principles that allow Europe to flourish, “united in diversity” today."
