West Bengal Electricity Distribution Grid Modernization Project

The proposed project would support the implementation of the 24x7 Power for All plan across 14 districts in the state of West Bengal by providing financial and technical support for investments in the modernization of electricity distribution network and institutional development of state distribution utility to improve operational efficiency in the sector and provide reliable supply to the consumers. Proposed project activities will mainly follow existing alignments/ROW and will include: a) replacement of distribution cables with Armoured Bunched cables across the 14 districts as part of High Voltage Distribution System, b) replacement of distribution level transformers, c) construction of GIS substations at distribution level, and d) underground cabling in five towns. It is to be noted that RoW for UG cable is only 1m while RoW for overhead lines is 7m in case of 11kV and 15m in case of 33kV lines.
