The West Coast Expressway (WCE) project involves the construction of a 69km expressway across Melaka with six new toll plazas to be created, increasing the total number of entrances into Melaka to nine. The project aims to improve traffic flow and facilitate entry into Melaka, especially for heavy vehicles, with toll plazas strategically located in areas such as Semabok, Gangsa, and Masjid Tanah. The project also includes a new ring road alignment that residents can use without tolls and an upgrade of the Jalan Masjid Tanah to Sungai Udang route from two lanes to four lanes over nearly 7km, costing RM300 million.
