West Coast Pipeline

planned

The West Coast Pipeline project involves the construction of a new pipeline to the West Coast of British Columbia. The project aims to be deemed of national interest and potentially bypass the traditional federal assessment process under Bill C-5. Adjustments to the tanker ban will be made around the pipeline area, and the federal government has agreed to replace the oil and gas emissions cap with a higher provincial industrial carbon tax effective next spring. However, the project faces significant opposition from British Columbia Premier David Eby and several First Nations groups, who have indicated they would reject any pipeline crossing to the province's coast.
