West Park Presbyterian Church, a Romanesque Revival style building completed in 1890 in Manhattan's Upper West Side, is facing potential demolition due to financial difficulties. The church has petitioned the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission to allow demolition citing undue hardship. The Center at West Park, an arts nonprofit and former tenant, is campaigning with celebrity support to prevent demolition and preserve the landmark. The church has estimated repair costs at $26.6 million and has rejected offers from the Center for repairs and shared profits. The church had signed an agreement to sell the building for $33 million to a developer proposing a mixed-use property with luxury condominiums, retail space, and a 150-seat auditorium.
