Description
Description | This project consists of a joint initiative put forward by the Town of West Parry Sound, the townships of Seguin, McDougall, Carling, Archipelago, McKellar, and Whitestone, and the Shawanaga and Wasauksing First Nation communities. The Town of Parry Sound is the lead applicant for the project which will involve building a new, fully accessible recreation facility, located in Parry Sound, Ontario. The work will consist of building a new recreation and culture facility at 44 Joseph Street which will house a gym, a fitness and conditioning centre, a fitness studio, an indoor walking track, various multi-purpose rooms, space for indigenous programming, and inclusive change rooms. The facility will also feature a 25 meter, multi-lane lap pool, and a warm water therapy/leisure pool. Work will also include building a parking lot with 160 car capacity, and completing the landscaping and servicing spaces. The project will increase the quality of indoor recreation, promote inclusivity and encourage healthy, active living for community members from several municipalities and two First Nation communities. The facility will help close the existing service gap in the region whereby residents currently have to complete a 156 kilometer round-trip commute to access indoor recreation and pool facilities. |
