Description
Description | This project involves upgrades to the current basement ventilation system at Western Hospital to reduce the risks associated with re-occurring humidity problems. This project includes the installation of a new exhaust fan in the basement to maintain a negative air balance in the basement. This fan is to be sized at approximately 1,000 cubic feet per minute (CFM) to provide for a uniform distribution throughout the basement. Install (a) fan coil(s) in the basement with MERV 14 air filtration (to match existing air handling units) approximately 4,500 CFM. Fan coil(s) to have electric or hydronic heating coil and direct expansion (DX) cooling coil arranged and sized to allow for dehumidification within the space below 50% relative humidity (RH) at 20 °C. Provide outdoor DX condenser for fan coil(s). Provide piping and electrical connections for both heating coils and cooling coils and condenser as required. The work will also include cleaning and capping existing systems to allow for this upgrade. The installation of an isolated dehumidification and air filtration system will help to decrease moisture in the basement and remove a condition causing the growth of contaminants in this space. Air exchanges will meet the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Z317.2 - 2015 standard for outdoor ventilations rates. This project will address operational issues that have been further stressed during the ongoing pandemic and support economic recovery through investment in the community by stimulating construction in central Prince Edward Island. |
