White House Ballroom Construction Project

under construction

The project involves the construction of a new ballroom at the White House, initially a modest addition to the east wing, expanded to a 650-seat venue, with plans to increase capacity to 1,350 seats. The design includes features such as towering ceilings, arched windows inspired by Versailles' Hall of Mirrors, bulletproof glass, and gold furnishings. The project has faced criticism for design flaws including fake windows, blocked views, staircases leading nowhere, and an unnecessarily large rooftop area. The East Wing was demolished to make room for the ballroom, and the project is privately funded with a reported cost of $400 million.
