White-throated Sparrow Mural at Phoenix Gate Community Garden

completed

A mural painted by artist Maggie Rodriguez featuring a White-throated Sparrow perched on a vine of native Virginia rose. The mural is part of the Audubon Mural Project, a public-art initiative to raise awareness about birds vulnerable to extinction from climate change. The project involved NYC Parks’ Art in the Parks program, NYC Parks GreenThumb, the National Audubon Society, Gitler &_____ Gallery, and local artists to design murals in community gardens across New York City. The mural was created at Phoenix Gate Community Garden in Jamaica, Queens, which has been revitalized into a community hub and birding hotspot.
