The City of Whitehorse Water Treatment Plant Project addresses critical housing and infrastructure needs in the Yukon’s City of Whitehorse. As a result of surface water directly influencing the Selkirk Aquifer’s groundwater wells, the City of Whitehorse faces challenges to maintaining safe drinking water. To support population growth, the city will construct a new facility adjacent to the water treatment plant’s Selkirk Pumphouse. This facility will provide secondary water treatment by integrating such advanced technologies as disinfection using ultraviolet light, membrane filtration, and sedimentation tanks. The upgraded water treatment plant will enable 7,338 new housing units by 2045, ensuring residents reliable water services, while supporting economic growth.
