Will Ruth Pond Stormwater Pond

The Will Ruth Pond project is the largest stormwater pond in El Paso Water's history, designed to reduce flooding in Northeast El Paso by capturing stormwater runoff before it reaches neighborhoods. The approximately 25-acre pond will hold more than 100 million gallons of stormwater during heavy rain events and aims to remove about 600,000 from the floodplain. Construction began in early 2025, with the first phase (excavation) expected to complete in fall 2026, and the entire project by 2029. The project includes an underground drainage system and a pump system to manage standing water, with a sandy bottom to allow quick water absorption. The site will also feature a walking path, benches, and landscaping.
