Description | The NESE pipeline is a proposed natural gas pipeline running mostly underwater for about 23 miles between New Jersey and the Rockaway Transfer Point in New York. It aims to address the unreliability of the downstate New York power grid and is supported by Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company, LLC (a subsidiary of Williams Company) and National Grid. The project has faced multiple environmental denials and legal challenges but has recently had its certificate reissued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is set to decide on a water quality certification for the pipeline by November 30, 2025.
