Description | The City of Wilmington is planning a rail realignment project that will replace and improve the existing freight rail route between Navassa (Davis) Yard and the Port of Wilmington. The existing CSX freight lines travel through Navassa and over the Cape Fear River to the north of Wilmington, then take a looping 8-mile detour through Wilmington, crossing 32 grade-level intersections before arriving at the Port. The trip takes about four hours. The new, shorter alignment would travel on the western shore of the Cape Fear River and include a new bridge. |
