Wind Farms Cancellation Deal with TotalEnergies

The Trump administration reached a deal to pay the French energy company TotalEnergies nearly $1 billion to abandon its plans to build two offshore wind farms off the East Coast of the United States. In exchange, TotalEnergies will invest the money in oil and gas projects in the U.S., including a liquefied natural gas export facility in Texas and increased oil production in the Gulf of Mexico. The wind farms would have been located off New York and North Carolina and were previously halted by the administration citing national security concerns.
