WithYou: accompaniment of victims and witnesses in the justice system

ended

The Victims’ Directive allows victims to be accompanied by someone of their choosing during criminal proceedings, but some Member States do not provide for this right in their national laws. In order to promote an improved compliance with the Directive and uphold victims’ rights, the Project’s core objective is to contribute to the enabling of accompaniment of victims during criminal proceedings by a victim support worker (VSW). This accompaniment will contribute to an effective support during criminal proceedings, thus favoring the victims’ recovery and a positive judicial outcome, as well as promote an effective exercise of victims’ right in the criminal justice system, therefore contributing to reduce victims’ anxiety regarding the criminal proceeding.
