Description
Description | The partnership of the Brazilian state-owned company Petrobras (51%) and the company Wobben Windpower (49%), a subsidiary of the German group Enercon, was granted authorizations to build two wind power plants located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in the municipality of Guamare (52 MW in total capacity). The 35-year contracts were signed with the regulatory agency ANEEL in June 2010, and two special purpose companies were created to manage the projects: Eolica Mangue Seco 3 Geradora e Comercializadora de Energia S.A. and Eolica Mangue Seco 4 Geradora e Comercializadora de Energia S.A. These two power plants are part of the Mangue Seco Wind Park, which has additional units owned by Petrobras and Alubar (Mangue Seco 1) and by Petrobras and state-owned Eletrobras (Mangue Seco 2). The two subsidiaries committed to invest US$ 106 million (BRL 212 million) in the construction of the power plants. The entire park cost US$ 212 million (BRL 424 million). In April 2011, a US$ 52.8 million (BRL 84 million) loan was granted by the state-owned banks BNB and BNDES. In 2010, the sponsor began the construction of the plants and in August 2011 both units started operations. The power generated at the Mangue Seco Wind Park was set to be sold to the regulated market under 20-year power purchased agreements which were granted in a competitive bidding process in December 2009. |
