Description

Description

The Women Actively Venturing Exploration (WAVE) project is an Erasmus+ Capacity Building program that aims to promote gender equality and leadership possibilities for women in outdoor sports throughout the Western Balkans. Despite the growing popularity of activities like rowing, cycling, and hiking, women are still severely underrepresented in both participation and decision-making roles due to cultural hurdles, a lack of infrastructure, and limited institutional support. This initiative addresses these issues by providing grassroots sports organizations with the necessary tools, training, and mentorship programs to promote an inclusive sports culture. A study phase will analyze gender gaps in outdoor sports, with the goal of developing leadership training programs and a structured mentorship plan that will connect aspiring female leaders with experienced professionals. In addition, an online resource portal will be created to ensure sustainability and accessibility. The project, which involves a strong consortium from Serbia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro, strengthens transnational cooperation in order to improve regional collaboration and policy development. It aims to integrate gender-inclusive governance practices by bringing together local communities, sports groups, and legislators, opening the road for systemic change. The project, which aligns with EU priorities on gender equality and social inclusion, contributes to larger sustainable development goals by improving female representation in sports leadership, expanding access to outdoor activities, and creating a supportive network for women in sports. Its influence goes beyond participation, seeking to transform sports culture and leave a legacy of empowerment for future generations.
