Description

Description

The European Women's Lobby (EWL) was established in 1990 and is today the largest umbrella organisation of women's associations in the European Union (EU) and beyond. The membership of the EWL covers a wide geographical spread across Europe, representing over 2000 women organisations. The EWL plays a crucial role in linking women's organisations with EU institutions and decision-makers, by facilitating dialogue and exchange. The mission, vision and values are embedded in its Strategic Framework 2022-2026. In 2025, the EWL will continue to be at the forefront of driving change to achieve gender equality in Europe. To this end, in addition to following up on the implementation of legislation (Directives) and policies adopted during the EU 2019-2024 mandate, it will continue to focus on all forms of Violence against Women, sexual exploitation including prostitution, sexual and reproductive rights, feminist economics, care, and gender mainstreaming, particularly in climate policies and digital policies. The EWL will continue to collaborate and strengthen partnerships with civil society, the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), and with EU institutions to follow up on our EU elections Manifesto and pledge, advocate for a renewed Gender Equality Strategy (post 2025), an EU Council formation on Equality and an EU Commissioner for Equality, with a portfolio on gender equality. Together with its membership, the EWL will mark its 35th anniversary, the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action and 25th anniversary of UN Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security. Strengthening members' resilience and sustainability in a changing political landscape will remain a priority in 2025.
