Description
Description | Women's World Banking Capital Partners II (WWB II) is a structured, global equity fund based in Mauritius that invests in (micro)finance institutions and financial service providers in the form of minority stakes. The overarching development policy objective of the measure is to improve women's access to financial services (financial inclusion) and to promote equality within financial institutions. Studies have shown that granting microcredits to women has a lasting and profound effect on the general well-being of the population. The multiplier effect is also greater when women are economically empowered. Compared to men, poor women reinvest a far larger share of their income in their families and communities - for example, they finance health care or the education of their children. Based on these findings, Women's World Banking II (WWB II) has focused specifically on improving women's opportunities and prosperity through economic independence since its inception. The microfinance institutions and banks of the WWB II network provide loans and other financial services to low-income entrepreneurs in developing countries around the world. In addition to WWB II, a Technical Assistance Facility (TAF) has been set up. These funds are intended to support portfolio companies in bringing more women into leadership positions and developing and launching more financial products specifically for women. |
